The Helping Hand, Bang & Olufsen Medicom’s award winning tablet reminder device, has been on a tour in Europe with the exhibition Scandinavian Design beyond the Myth. After 4 years on the road and visits in 14 different cities, the exhibition is now taking an end and the Helping Hand will now be displayed at the National Gallery of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo, Norway.
The Helping Hand among Design Giants
The exhibition displays the modernity of the so-called Designs for the Millennium, which characterises the comeback in the 1990s within Scandinavian design after the “golden age” starting in the 1950s. Both myths and stereotypes are displayed in the functionalistic and simple expression which Scandinavian design has been recognised for and remembered by. Moreover, the exhibited designs are grouped into six categories, which are esteemed to be the Six Memos for the Next Millennium as a point of departure: Lightness, Quickness, Exactitude, Visibility, Multiplicity and Consistency. These are emphasized as some values that will be important for creative people in the new millennium.
The Helping Hand is displayed in the category Quickness, whereas different versions of the NovoPen, among which Novo Pen 3, developed and produced by B&O Medicom, are displayed in the category Consistency. The exhibited designs from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Denmark have been seen by nearly 500,000 visitors, and now that the exhibition tour has ended the designs will be displayed at the National Gallery of Art, Architecture and Design (Kunstidnustrimuseet) in Oslo, Norway.
